The Picnic series was done after going to Mirka Mora’s memorial ceremony at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda.

Mirka’s colour, line and cornucopia of characters has continued to enchant and influence this work. Soon after there was an exhibition of Mirka’s work at Heide Museum of Modern Art, always inspiring.

“The Picnic series is based on the first date I went on with my now husband, but Euan Heng’s ‘Boogie Woogie’ rabbit also insisted on coming to the party, loving picnics she has made several appearances.”

Euan’s work has been informed by his love of Renaissance painting, and he has been a great influence, with both our shared love of the Renaissance, as well as his brilliant use of shape and line, often sparely used, but both of which expresses so much emotion.
